Trending: Gretchel Diez was prohibited to use the Women’s restroom.

Earlier today, a viral video from a transgender Gretchen Diez is trending online because of the incident that she was prohibited to use the female’s restroom at Farmer’s Mall in Quezon City.

Quezon City is one of the cities in Metro Manila that implements ordinance on gender equality which aims to give respect and equal rights to LGBT or commonly known as Lesbians, Gay, Bisexual and Transgenders. Unfortunately, Farmer’s Mall did not abide one of the provisions of the ordinance which is to provide an “All-Gender-Toilets” for the mall goers. The Gender Fair Ordinance clearly prohibits discrimination on any sexual orientation, gender identity and expressions in the city.

What exactly happened on the incident?

On that day, Diez shared on her facebook a video clip that shows part of the incident. In this video an employee by the name of Chayra Ganal said to Diez that she was supposed to use the men’s restroom instead of the ladies room. When Diez refused and stated that she knows what exactly her rights are, Ganal forcefully took her to the security room.

On the short video clip, Ganal is demanding Diez to stop recording the video. It was also evident on the video that the mobile phone being used to make the video is being taken away by Diez. In addition, she was hit more than three times on her arms to make her stop the video.

The video was caught the attention of Sen. Risa Hontiveros who principally authored the bill. The senator sent one of her lawyers to help Diez who was in the the custody of QCPD’s Anti-Cybercrime Division in Camp Karingal where she was detains for a few hours.

A copy of the video clip was available here while I was writing this article, here.
